"Peatling" this rum was an ingenious idea from Mount Gay and I love it. This is a rum that whisky drinkers will like as well. You may want to add a few drops of water to lessen the burn, but not really needed. The nose is fruity with peat and smoke followed by oak, caramel and vanilla. I just kept on nosing this one. The palate is complex and very well balanced with fruit and spices topped off with caramel, oak and smoke. The peat is here again. The finish is long, very long and warm with spices, orange and a touch of smoke.
Indeed, hints of soft whiskey with otherwise very round, hatmonish body. Fruckt and sweetness are pleasantly mild, the alcohol comes after a bit peppery in the finish. Fig, date, a bit of roasted almond.
I’m a huge fan of the Mount Gay Rum! This has completed my collection of this line, for now. I will say I’m always very curious to see how Pete cask finishes go. In some cases, they tend to over dominate, but in the case of this expression, I think it pairs beautifully. Tasting notes: banana, vanilla, chocolate, smoke, caramel, toasted nuts, leather
The nose is dominated by the pleasantly sweet scent of pipe tobacco or a light cigar, subtle citrus notes threadThe mouth fills again with tobacco, but this time more sweetness and wood. Intense, slightly salty and .... well, of course... PeatThe peaty sweetness remains relatively long.Whether a rum necessarily needs an expansion in Islay casks, I do not know. Tasty that is now and then already. Here, however, the P / L does not fit in my opinion.
