Un très beau rhum. Avec pas mal d’amertume et de bois, mais aussi des fruits, surtout après une longue aération. On en reprends volontiers.

I think that is the oldest rum I've ever tasted. I'm quite surprised it is not so woody. I would even say it is very well balanced and wood does not kill everything. Kudos to RumClub 💥

Incredibly complex and elegant at the same time. If I were to taste blind it would be woody like an old Enmore, fruity like a not so old Skeldon, a little dirty, menthol and mint like in a Caroni to my taste. If I had to answer the question of my favorite rum, there would be an answer now.

Ich habe nur eine einzige kleine Probe, also näherte ich mich entsprechend vorsichtig und respektvoll, nach einer Stunde Belüftung wage ich mich heran... Nase: Super smooth und komplex! Und da ist sie: die leichte Buchweizennote! (hatte ich in Edition 26 wahrgenommen - Ex-Gardel Finish) gefällt mit! Der Gaumen kann leider gar nicht mithalten, sehr holzig, bitter und ein wenig lasch! Fruchtigkeit oder gar Süße nehme ich nicht wahr sondern vor allem Tannine und eine krasse Trockenheit. Die nimmt zum Nachklang hin sogar noch zu. Neben den bitteren Tönen kann ich außer ein wenig Minze und Malz nix weiter entdecken. Es ist schon ein tolles Erlebnis einen so alten und geschichtsträchtigen Rum probieren zu können aber ehrlich, bind hätte ich wohl noch weniger Punkte vergeben 😉

Vanillemark, Cola, mango/pfirsich-schwarztee und balsamico, sowie grüne Walnusslikör Noten an der Nase. extrem komplex, süß, vielseitig und Intensiv. geschmacklich: dunkel, bitter, leicht säuerlich, malzig, schokoladig, Mokka und schwarzer Kardamom, Ceylon Tee, grüner Tee mit Minze, medjoul Datteln, Dörrpflaumen sowie extrem geile intensive und pure Melasse & Cola Noten! absoluter wahnsinn, das das Ding nach 38y nicht nur noch nach Holz schmeckt. geiler Stoff und flüssige Geschichte. deutlich weniger holzig als erwartet, diese intensive, dickflüssige Melasse, grüne Walnuss und Pflaumen Note ist einfach gigantisch! Nur Preislich wären 200€ weniger eher angemessen...

Schöne fruchtige Nase. Frische und getrocknete Pflaumen, Holz und Schokolade. Sehr komplex. Erinnert mich an den TRC Enmore 32. Am Gaumen dann ein anderes Bild. Minzig frisch und bitter. Schwarztee, grüne Walnüsse, Holz und daneben die Früchte aus der Nase. Nur eben deutlich dezenter. Sehr langer Abgang. Das Holz bindet sich trotz der sehr langen Lagerzeit erstaunlich gut in die Aromatik mit ein. An der Bitterkeit spürt man dann die lange Lagerzeit.

This is a very expensive bottle and I think there are other bottles out there at the same lavel that are much cheaper. That said its still a very good rum where you get the molasses very clean and clearly. Complex yet very well balanced because usually in such an old rum the barrel takes over. Fruity with spices and a touch of licorice and coffee/espresso. Lovely rum just to expensive.

An der Nase eine Kombination aus roten Früchten, Leder, Tabak und altem Kleiderschrank. Keineswegs zu holzig, mir kommen auch in Rotwein eingelegte Pflaumen, Cola und Orangenschale in den Sinn. Hier könnte ich stundenlang riechen 🤪 Am Gaumen überrascht zunächst die Bitterkeit, gefolgt von Menthol und Kirschbaumholz. Im Abgang habe ich metallische Noten und Schwarztee. Auch wenn der Gaumen gegenüber der Nase etwas abfällt, wirklich außergewöhnlich! Danke an Oliver für den Bottle Split 🙏

On the nose, it comes across as a beautiful blend of chocolates and nail polish, with layers of pickles, brine, some raspberry cola. Its actually rather uplifting, quite unexpected from a 38 year old rum. Some preserved orange peel, candy cane and toasted marshmallows. It really struck me how similar it nosed to an agricole, even though this is molasses-based. The palate is quite a finely balanced, sour wood, bittergourds, iodine, and red fruits all at the same time. Slightly herbaceous, grassy, a layer of crisp sweetness, fuji apples, fresh cranberries, dark chocolates, add a dash of liquorice and leather. The sweet red fruits, hawthorns, extend into that very long finish, with milk coffee, some sweet vanilla cream, ripe juicy red grapes, making the whole tasting experience a true wonder.

Dieser Rum ist nach normalen Maßstäben gar nicht zu bewerten. 38 Jahre alt, aus der verlorenen Gardel-Destillerie (die im Gegensatz zu Caroni kein ganzes Warehouse hinterlassen hat…), 700€ Ausgabepreis. Ein Einhorn sondergleichen, das man probiert haben muss. In der Nase bereits sehr dunkel, holzig, aber auch komplex, wenn auch etwas zurückhaltend. Nicht überrascht nach so langer Zeit im Fass, das dauert. Dazu Kräuter, Minze, schwarzer Tee und, und, und. Unglaublich spannend. Am Gaumen schmeckt man dann vor allem eines: 38 Jahre Fass. Holzig, würzig, röstig, bitter, alles was man sich vorstellen kann. Noch nicht untrinkbar, aber doch auch zu dominant, der Rest geht kolossal unter. Etwas Minze, Schwarztee und Kardamom, aber mit jedem Schluck mehr Fass. Spannend! Einzigartig!

Ein Einhorn! Mit Vorsicht und Ehrfurcht probiert: Nase direkt nach dem Einschenken: intensiv fruchtig würzig, alte Mandarine, getrocknete Früchte (Aprikose, Pflaume, Dattel) aber auch frische Cassis, etwas Minze, leicht Kerzenwachs. Dazu dunkles, altes Holz, etwas Leder und Tabak. Vielschichtig und ehrlich umwerfend. Gaumen direkt: altes Holz, Holzsäure, würzig, deutlich Lack und Politur (Auto Spachtel). Sofort Menthol das in Kardamom überlegt, etwas bitter und leicht salzig. Melasse und Lakritz. Geht dann Richtung alter Blutorange. Hinten etwas grün mit Minze. Lang. N:92, G:89, Einhorn:95

Flüssige Geschichte! Was für eine Nase! Am Gaumen fällt er im Vergleich zur Nase etwas ab. Trotz der stolzen 38 Jahre ist es zum Glück keine Holzsuppe. Wunderbar komplex, Bitternoten, dunkle Früchte, Tabak. Großartig!

Mit einer 38 jährigen Fassreifung und einer extrem dunklen, dickflüssigen Viskosität kommt der Gardel durchaus respekteinflößend daher. Die Nase bringt eine große Komplexität: Facetten von Schokolade, Nougat und Karamell treten hervor. Auch Trockenfrüchte, Gewürze und Holzfass-Noten. Der Geschmack überzeugt leider nicht in gleicher Weise. Zu Beginn sind einige Bitternoten dabei. Dann kommen auch Caroni-Noten von Gummi/Werkstatt und grüne Früchte durch. Extrem langer Abgang.

Bitterness prevails. Like cold coffee or black tea in which the tea bag has been left overnight. Unfortunately little other flavor notes discernible, although the nose is quite nice. Hard to judge if this is supposed to be the Gardel profile, or the barrel overlaid.

Entweder man mag ihn oder nicht! Ich glaube dazwischen ist kein Platz! Und ich mag ihn….ein sehr eleganter und man merkt es ihm an, ein sehr alter Rum… das Fass ist deutlich zu schmecken, aber auch die ganzen feine Aromen von Minze, Kräutern und Mokka sind deutlich zu schmecken… der Abgang ist extrem lecker, intensiv und lang.. super 👍🏻

Glücklich diesen Rum probiert zu haben…ist ein Highlight. Es tritt sofort eine krasse Bitterkeit im Mund ein, die aber so schnell sie gekommen ist auch wieder verschwindet und dann kommen extrem viele Facetten durch.

Das hier ist schon wirklich einzigartig und bietet definitiv ein Aromenpaket, wie man es nur selten findet. Die Nase ist absolut brachial und ich kann mit ziemlicher Sicherheit behaupten, kaum etwas gerochen zu haben, das so komplex ist. Von getrockneten Früchten, Politur, Cola, Schokolade, Mokka bis hin zu verschiedensten Gewürzen, Speck, Malz, Kräuter, Minze und sogar cremig/buttrigen ist unglaublich viel dabei... Überall macht der Rum noch eine Tür auf. Im Mund dann der totale Gewürz und Minz/ Kräuter Einschlag, aber auch Fass, Bitter - und Trockenheit. Keine Frucht mehr. Endloser Abgang

La couleur !? Il a bien pris de ses fûts, c’est dure d’être plus coloré que cela ! Le nez est magique. Difficile de ne pas s’y perdre durant de longues minutes sans tomber amoureux. C’est gras et gourmand sur la vanille, le cola, la prune, le chocolat … wahoo je surkiffe ! En bouche l’image est différente : sombre-amer-chocolat noir. Le palais ne me correspond pas trop, malheureusement,trop boisé. Je ne perçois pas de fruité, ni de notes plus douces. C’est vraiment trop tannique à mon gout. La finale est bien évidemment très longue sur ce même profil amer qui assèche la bouche. C’est une expérience incroyable de s’être plongé dans cette bouteille chargée d’histoire. Mais je retiendrai surtout ce nez démentiel. Maintenant, je vais laisser sagement la demie bouteille qu’il me reste prendre peut-être une 2ème vie avec une oxydation qui la sublimera … ou pas.

The first taste is like french rum style, sour and "old moldy cellar". 70/100 Few mins after the taste in mouth move up to full old demerara. Great!
