I do like this alot. The nose is vinous at a very first moment, then you get the nice garage dirt, some fruits after, like melon and dried plum. Palate is a smoky, tar, licorice, followed by espresso and bit of mint. Not much sweetness here, which doesn't bother me. What stands out for me is a very good abv integration and a rich mouthfeel. Aroma: very fruity fresh and sweet aroma, with smoky paint notes in the background, spicy, lots of spices and tropical fruits (somewhat similar to Barbados), collected dense aroma. Taste: sweet, dense, a sea of exotic fruits, paint, the fortress feels pungent, but very collected. The aftertaste is long, citrus-fruity with paint and varnish notes. Аромат: очень фруктовый свежий и сладкий аромат, с лакокрасочными дымными нотами на заднем плане, пряный, много специй и тропических фруктов (чем-то похож на Барбадос), собранный плотный аромат. Вкус: сладкий, плотный, море экзотических фруктов, краска, крепость чувствуется колкий, но очень собранный. Послевкусие долгое цифтрусово-фруктовое с лакокрасочными нотами.

Caroni 1998 HTR Cadenhead's Cask Strength Dated Distillation Cadenhead's 175th Anniversary Distilled: 12.1998 Bottled: Summer 2017 Aged 18 Years 65.8% One of 228 Bottles Pot Still Farbe: Kastanie Geruch: Vollmundig, süßlich mit Röstaromen - Toffee, Leder, Maroni und Kautabak wechseln sich mit dem Caroni-typischen Gummi ab. Hmmm da ist doch auch knusprige Schweinshaxe!? (nein ich habe gerade weder gegessen noch habe ich Hunger-Halluzinationen) Holzig, riecht genauere gesagt nach nassem Holz. Aber da sind auch Fruchtaromen: Steinobst und Pflaume in Madeira. Wird beim Stehen mit der Zeit immer süßer und leckerer. Teer und Petroleum sind da zwar auch irgendwo, stehen für mich aber nicht im Vordergrund. Geschmack: Extrem Powerful! Zunächst noch süß und ölig im Mund, mit Marmelade, Kokos und dabei erstaunlich rund. Beim Schlucken kommt dann die volle Power, hauptsächlich in Form von Gewürzen (Pfeffer) und Gummi-Geschmack. Saftig lecker mit viel Lebkuchen, flüssigem Toffeekonzentrat, Leder, Kakao, Kautabak und Holz. Abgang: Wirklich sehr lang, dabei kräftig und intensiv, würzig und ölig zugleich. Wärmt massiv und ohne Ende von ganz tief innen. Süßlich öliger Nachgeschmack. Etwas Kräuter und leicht bitter im Abgang. Fazit: Ein wirklich großartiger Rum - empfehlenswert.

I just secured my VIP ticket for the German Rum Festival 2022 in Berlin so I opened this sample. Pretty good and at release the price matched the quality. Slightly lighter on the Caroni notes than the heavy ones, but still pretty good. The nose has dried fruit, rubber and tar right off the bat followed by roasted wood, leather and a nice tobacco note. The palate is intense and complex yet well balanced with dried fruit, rubber and tar trailed by robacco and light caramel. The finish is long, intense and warm with tobacco and light nuttyness.

Another good Caroni offering from Cadenheads. The older offerings on the rum side were very underrated. Enjoyed this also in shop and pleased to see it opened by a few friends. Unfortunately not much to be found anymore from this one.

Im Vergleich zum Bellamy's und Colors of Rum Caroni 1998 ist dieser wesentlich trockener und dreckiger. Die Früchte sind Begleiterscheinungen. Überraschenderqeise wird der Abgang erstaunlich beerig fruchtig. Der Alkohol ist leider mittelmäßig eingebunden. Ein solider dreckiger Caroni.

Wird hintenraus wirklich gut. Der Geruch und Anfang sehr zurückhaltend für die 65%. Haben ihn mit dem Bristol Haromex 1998 verglichen und diesen schlägt er trotz der deutlich mehr % nur knapp. Aber trotz alledem ein schöner kontinentaler Caroni, der alles bietet an dreckigen Tönen was man erwartet.

I had the unique opportunity yesterday to compare this rum with other 98s, including Paradise #2. Compared to the tropically aged Caroni, the continental aged ones do fall off a bit. Alcohol is very present, dirty notes, bourbon, wood, tobacco.
