How does this rum taste?
The Limited Batch Series no 5 (Port Mourant) is a distinct Guyanese rum distilled in 2005 at Demerara Distillers Ltd and aged 15 years. Bottled at cask strength, this 58.3% ABV rum offers an intriguing aromatic profile featuring prominent anise, mint, and mirabelle plum notes with touches of oak and medicinal hints. On the palate, it surprises with an oily texture, accented by anise, spices, and a woody undertone, complemented by iodine-like characteristics. Many describe it as a complex, yet balanced rum that evolves with each sip, offering a lengthy and creamy finish. As a limited release of only 108 bottles, it’s a coveted choice for enthusiasts seeking a rare, high-quality rum.

Second tasting and recalibration:The rum is not as good compared to rum rated equally good by me. In addition, the alcohol can be better integrated. -5 pointsNose: what a "mess"! Very complex and versatile. Here I can sniff it for a long time and always discover new flavors!Mouth: the start is amazingly mild but then the flavors come riding with full force on the alcohol wave! Again, a crazy combination and variety!Finish: long and with recurring impressions of nose and palate. Amazing: here the fruity flavors do not come under the wheels of barrel and spice.A great rum! No easy sipper and it takes its time.
A beautiful continental aged Guyana nose more sweet than salty: anise or rather fennel tea, very ripe mirabelle, oak (more like a dusty closet than a toasted barrel), esters bring some sweet yeast pastry. In the mouth the rum becomes saltier and the wood becomes more present without being overbearing: Anise, olives, iodine. To the ripe yellow fruit comes something unripe, tart with a hint of chlorophyll. The finish is wonderfully long and creamy: salty syrup and again overripe slightly vanilla mirabelle.A wonderful rum. Unfortunately, I did not buy a bottle on Black Friday 😢Hab him together with the rum Mercenary 2005 tasted. The RDL is for me the clear winner.Irre is the difference to the 2008 PM of Kill Devil which pulls the here soft, volatile deep into the dirt!
Vertical PM tasting: 89 / 95 /97 / 97 (cognac finish) / 02 / 05 / 13 Nose: fruits are very tamed here. Rather challenging with classic PM notes. Palate: much more pleasant on the palate. Well balanced and enjoyable.
