How does this rum taste?
The Collectors Series No. 2 MDS is a well-crafted rum distilled in 1996 at Guyana's Diamond distillery, independently bottled by Romdeluxe. Aged 25 years, this limited release offers complex aromas of dried fruit, plum, and molasses, alongside notes of licorice and chocolate. With an ABV of 49.2%, it maintains depth and flavor richness. While praised for its balance and integration of alcohol, some feel the mash might benefit from more character at its ABV. Overall, it symbolizes quality craftsmanship while offering an affordable entry into aged rums.

I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 47,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
It is quite similar to the Corman Collins C'Rhum - heavy sweetness dominates, but unfortunately the reduced alcohol strength is also too noticeable in this bottling. It remains speculative whether the original distillate would have benefited from more power - but knowing the potential of the vintage, coupled with the legendary Coffey still as the source, it is reasonable to suspect that even more would have been possible. As a result, there is once again a lot of heavy caramel sweetness with dark chocolate, subtle café au lait and dark spicy notes, which provide some aromatic tension on the palate - but overall there is not enough spectacle for an even higher rating.
Great, intense, dark nose. Chocolatey and roasted. On the palate with plenty of power - but in a positive sense. Very well integrated alcohol. Super long finish.
A very well balanced and medium complex rum with nice fruits and wood/wood spices. Chocolate, coffee and tobacco complement the molasses flavour wonderfully.
Too bad that the Diamond was diluted. Potential is there! For me, a little too much molasses in the taste. Taste-wise, I therefore like the Corman a little better than the Rome de luxe 2 batch.
