"After I tasted the rum solo yesterday and was quite impressed by it, it has to go up against another 2003 today: my choice is the CdI Caksus (RX11936), which I gave a whopping 89 points to back then. And what can I say: it has a really hard time against this brand new TDL from the still very unknown Bottler Spirit Gallery! If one is ahead on the nose and then the other 😉, although neither of them is yet highly recommended, but rather greets you shyly with slightly alcoholic vapors, the heavyweight from Spirit Gallery turns up the heat on the palate and literally pushes the Caksus against the wall. To put it plainly: the CdI Caksus gets the maximum palatable flavors out of the 56.3%, especially menthol, while the Spirit Gallery, by virtue of its (fairly well integrated) 60%, mainly presses a huge spice onto the palate (menthol plays a rather subordinate role). Conclusion: The Caksus TDL is more the light-footed, good-humored lightweight boxer who plays at the top of his class, while the Spirit Gallery TDL is the impetuous, somewhat fierce heavyweight boxer at the beginning of his career, who can hardly walk with power, but already has a lot of potential. A somewhat unequal fight, which fortunately still ends in a draw."

"Weeral een geweldige botteling van The Roots! Zeer lekker fruitig TDL profiel, de typische munt is aanwezig en daar hou ik van. Alcohol zeer goed geïntegreerd. Enige nadeel: ik wou dat de finish langer bleef duren. Ben benieuwd hoe hij de komende weken/maanden nog gaat evolueren nu de fles geopend is. Prijs/kwaliteit top en zeker een aanrader! Joren, doe zo voort! Another great botteling from The Roots. Very nice fruity TDL profile, the typical mint note is present and I like that a lot. Alcohol very well integrated. Only downside: I wish the finish lasted longer. I'm curious to see how it will evolve in the coming weeks/months now the bottle has been opened. Price/quality is great and definitely recommended! Joren, keep up the good work!"

"Vom ersten Eindruck eine sehr gelungene Abfüllung, tolle Fassauswahl. Bringt alles mit, was man sich aus dem 2008/2009er Jahrgang so erwartet. Aus der Erinnerung heraus, hat mir aber der T.D.L vom Bottle Shop ein wenig besser geschmeckt. Aber ein Vergleich steht noch aus."

"Sehr positiv überrascht! Hatte tatsächlich noch nie einen Angostura im Glas, deswegen war es die beste Idee, diesen Rum zunächst blind zu verkosten. Beim Riechen war meine erste Assoziation, dass es sich um eine Art TiPunch handeln muss, sehr präsente, einladende Zitrusnote. Am Gaumen dann ein angenehm würziger Rum, nicht unbedingt fruchtig. Erst, als zum Ende hin massiv Minze zu schmecken war, war ich mir relativ sicher, dass es sich um einen TDL handeln muss, und zwar einen der späteren (2008-2010). Na gut, ganz knapp daneben - oder auch nicht. 😉 Aber das tut meiner Einschätzung überhaupt keinen Abbruch: Was ein geiler Rum mit nur 44,7%! 😋"

"Difficult. Artificial on the nose (at least on mine), on the palate it could also be a whisky (and I'm really not a fan of that). TDL DNA almost imperceptible. I don't really warm to the rum. Update 30 minutes later, because I still had some in my glass: Wow, it's clearly improving towards TDL! I wouldn't have expected that. 3 points more."

"Many pleasing notes of vanilla, caramel, chocolate; as the taste progresses, subtle spices, a recognizable roasted aroma and reduced mineral-medicinal notes join in. Knowing that recognizable Caroni notes are often present in TDLs from 1991 - which, thanks to the sometimes liberal use of casks from neighbouring distilleries, have little to do with chance - I always have some hope for the classic tar and gum aromas in 1991 Trinidad releases. These play a subordinate role here at best, which is why the overall profile is a little too straightforward. A rum that remains pleasant to drink, unfortunately without any well-founded potential for enthusiasm."

"This is a vanilla bomb! If you like the taste of vanilla, you would like this rum. It is fairly smooth drinking and would probably go well over ice. It definitely tastes like they add vanilla flavoring, in my opinion. Very sweet and not terribly complex."

"After resting this one for 15 minutes it really opens up. A really nice Barbados rum with many of the Bajan flavours. Fruits well mixed with spices and nice wood. Slight bitterness on the palate and finish. I like it 😊 Overall a well rounded rum."
