"Very nice on the nose. This feels very mature (in a positive way) with lots of wood, chocolate and hints of coconuts. Those notes are accompanied by lots of ripe and dried fruits and some herbs (a hint of menthol?). The fruit notes are rather intense making this the best MG nose I experienced so far. Lots of wood on the palate without being to dry or bitter. Dark choclate and some dried fruits show up to the party. Nice. This one needs quite some time to breath to fully open up but delivers a very nice MG expression."

"#4167 I have been through quite a few Mount Gays and the top releases are usually pretty good. So is this one. Fruity with roasted wood and a warm and lightly dry palate. Good balance between the flavours and ABV."

"Lively on the nose underlining its relative young age. Young wood and a jam of (fresh) apples and cinnamon come to my mind. This is rather interesting. Also nice on the palate. Doesn’t hide its young age but is quite enjoyable. Some sweetness with coconuts and vanilla. Basket of continental fruits with some cinnamon again. Side note to the (European) pricing: absolutely not worth EUR 350-400 unfortunately imho."

"Ah damn, if only there were not this alcoholic note in particular and we would have here a fantastic forest in the glass. On the palate I got some unripe fruit that is slightly tart, I think currant. The finish is joined by bitter orange and a tiny bit of coconut. Tip: Let breathe very long so that the alcohol evaporates somewhat. Otherwise, a tasty treat."

"Primär klassisches MG Profil. Vanille, getrocknete Banane, Früchte, Honig und Karamell. Ergänzt wird das durch Rauch, Würze und Torf. Gute Stärke und ausgewogen. Im Mund kommt dann das Finish ordentlich. Sehr rauchig, fleischig. Honig, getrocknete Früchte. Pfeffrige Würze. Guter Abgang. Das torfige steht Mount Gay richtig gut. Toller Rum."

"#4121 First off, price to quality is pretty good in my mind. Intense and fruity with a well balanced ABV. Despite the age the wood isn't dominant but rather well balanced with the other flavours. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass is very nice and I can pick up some chocolate and pineapple."

"Surprisingly fruity (citrus and later cherry) at the beginning in the nose, later a touch of vanilla and coconutOn the palate a woodiness and spiciness prevails with a touch of mocha...very tasty. The finish is also very mild! The alcohol is perfectly integrated!A first class Mount GayToday a second time in the glass. Somehow lost it for me, maybe form of the day. Burnt caramel predominates and the depth is missing for me."

"Obwohl ich nicht der größte Mount Gay Fan bin, muss ich sagen, dass mir der Duchess durchaus gefällt. Ich wüsste auch nicht, ob ich ihn blind überhaupt als Mount Gay erkannt hätte. An der Nase florale Noten, gelbe Früchte, Wassermelone, Karamellpudding. Am Gaumen Tabak, Gewürze. Hinten raus ordentlich Fass / Tannine."

"This is a very atypical but delicious Rum from Mount Gay🤤Blind you’ll never say this is a MG 😅 The alcohol is integrated well. Some atypical tastes in mouth and finish with some notes of licorice, tobacco and a nice taste of the oak barrel. It‘s an awesome everyday rum with a good price per value ratio. I see this one slightly behind the 2000 MG from S.B.S Update: Found some nice licorice and rubber notes 😜 The second sip was a lot better, more impressive. By far the best from mount gay🤤🤤 enjoyed it a lot"

"One of the better Mount Gay rums I know - but the profile remains too insignificant for me. Alcohol integration seems to be a constant challenge of the distillates, moreover, the flavor spectrum remains overall quite close together. Smoky notes, oak, spices - here for a change with some tropical fruit freshness. Can not inspire me, unfortunately."

"We tasted four Mount Gay 2000 releases at the Rum-X Community Tasting. The tasting was very entertaining, but the rums only contributed a small part. Overall, the rums were super similar, with the differences being in the nuances. Personally, I don't like the profile as much, as it simply lacks fruit. In the mouth, I find them better across the board than in the nose.The Mercenary rum is the sweetest of the round, with a grain note reminiscent of bourbon. The fruit on the nose is reminiscent of ripe banana, along with tobacco, tea and vanilla with lightly charred caramel. The mouth is intense and creamy with a nice sweetness. It's super smooth, but unfortunately not particularly complex."

"Whisky & Rom Festival 2023 28.10.2023 Another retaste and it still performs pretty well. Price to quality is pretty good. ------------------------- This is a very nice and easy sipping rum from Mount Gay. A typical Bajan rum in nose and palate. The nose is elegant with spice, a bit of orange and charred barrel. The palate starts off with a bit of sweetness, spicy and a bit dry. There is some leather and earthyness to it as well. The finish is medium long, dry and with charred oak and ginger. Again a tiny bit of earthyness on the way out."

"I really like this Mount Gay because it tastes great but is also very affordable, so you can mix a cocktail with it from time to time. The ageing in freshly distilled barrels is very clear, so it is very reminiscent of bourbon."

"This is one of the rums I have probably had the most of over time. A rum developed in 1911 and used in many mixers, which is where i learned about it in my teens way back. Not a super good sipper when you're used to the better Barbadian rums, but a very good choice in mixers. Have many memories both good and bad about this rum 🤣 Many a hangover have been traced back to this particular rum."
