Martinique Grand Arôme

"RumX Awards 2023. Warm, heavy flavors with roasted, caramelized pineapple, overripe banana and acidity. Glue and woodiness and like a light acetone. The attack is lively but balanced, the palate less dark overall than the nose, with an astonishing background of persistent freshness. As the palate evolves, the wood becomes dominant but not disturbing. The length is prodigious, with wood, glue and a noble bitterness. At the very end, roasted pineapple and banana reappear, with a hint of pastry and old leather. A very fine rum, you feel carried away as an old galleon from another age when all ships were made of wood."

"What a cool drop. Thick molasses rum that drinks like syrup from the consistency. The palate is extremely complex and very special in its own way. The blueberry and strawberry I find very horny. The finish is no less complex. Meaty, bacony, smoky, licorice, medicinal. Very exciting profile. Especially for the two years of aging. Please more of it."

"Hui... a really extraordinary rum, in the nose, in taste and in general. Who is looking for something extraordinary is right here. I have never drunk a rum like this before. This rum is something for connoisseurs, very complex. I drank the rum pure and felt the full force 😵. Long finish with some sweetness out the back. Even in Ti Punch incredibly complex, not to be compared with the usual brands from the island of Martinique. I think this rum would also be what for the friends of Caroni and Co. what. 🥃"

"WOW... this is so far one of the best fresh Agricoles I could taste! Still relatively restrained on the nose, the palate develops wonderful flavors of sweetness, steppe, smoke and vegetal notes! The alcohol is perfectly integrated and the finish continues in this pleasant manner...! Just good, a positive surprise 👍🏻"

"Actually quite ok for the price, but in my opinion it's not really a banger bottling. Which of course perhaps earns a little extra point for the fact that swell released it relatively punctually for a change. Sorry for the sarcasm. My conclusion, a summer sipper for in between, but nothing where I would need a bottle of it now"

"Overall, quite solid galion but not as intense and long-lasting funky as the Finedrams galion. Has rather very green tones of green melon, green grape, unripe pineapple, some parmesan and green olives and just discreetly this salty meaty umami with minimal smoke and cumin? In daiquiri quite nice but not as good as the Finedrams 🤷🏼♂️"

"Beautiful Le Galion, but the PX finish does not seem unreservedly advantageous. The heavy fruit notes crush the freshness a bit, the whole thing is still within limits, nothing tips completely in the wrong direction - but it is at the expense of the great freshness that otherwise distinguishes the Grand Arômes from Le Galion."

"For me, confusingly similar to the Velier-Clairin from the 11th GRF (RX13301). And that one didn't taste good to me either, unfortunately. 🤷♂️ So not only that I would have blindly guessed the wrong country with Haiti, this Agricole from Martinique doesn't particularly turn me on at the palate (whiskey impression, not my cup of tea at all); which is a pity, because when opening the bottle, promising exotic-sweet funk sounds hit me in the nose. The light coffee note in the finish, however, reconciles me again a bit with the unpleasant previous impression on the palate."

"#4712 28.04.2024 Unaged tasting at home while relaxing in between the sets with Hulk on bluray 😊 Nose Intense, fresh, vegetal, light grass, lime, banana, light sugarcane, spice. Palate Intense, warm, medium spicy, fruits, lime, vegetal, light floral. Finish Very long and warm, fruity, light lime, light herbal, light sugarcane. The empty glass has some smoke, faint chocolate and minerals."

"Love it or hate it - completely your own profile. I like Le Galion well, even if I can understand that not everyone will be happy here. The bottling has similarities with the Grand Arômes of Savanna, but again brings a somewhat spicy-herbaceous note purely, which in return the fruit ester sharpness somewhat invalidates - if one can speak of it at all here. Worth trying in any case!"

"A lot going on with this one. My first Grand Arome from Le Gallion and certainly impressive given the relative young age. The nose is rich with overripe fruit and some glue like notes but not as in your face as some high ester rums. The mouth doesn’t quit live up to the nose with some spice, butterscotch and more subtle ripe bananas. The finish is pleasant with glue and some lingering elements. It punches above its weight and I look forward to trying more Grand Arome’s in due course."

"Jobannes Blind-Tasting Rum Nr. 2 : Der sagt mir überhaupt nicht zu. Hier ist ein Aroma was ich als harzig-sauer-fruchtig und künstlich bezeichne. Das begleitet einen von der Nase, Gaumen bis zum Abgang. So richtig kann ich den Rum nicht zuordnen. Ich tippe mal auf einen Clairin. Edit: da habe ich ja voll daneben gelegen"
