"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Together with cask #5613, the best Caroni ever for me. A little more subtle on the nose, with the full aroma package of the Guyana Stock HTR Caronis on the palate: vanilla, caramel, oak, fresh mint, dried tropical fruits, plus the dirty HTR aromas. You can't get much more than that. The ultimate in tasting and therefore for me the absolute top of the Caroni Veliers."

Aromatic power in its most elegant form - the rum plays at the highest level in the nose and mouth, beating various other top shots in a blind comparison and therefore ranking among the best releases ever from Trinidad. "Un rhum que j’ai eu la chance de déguster à l’aveugle et j’ai parié sur un blend Demerara, Caroni et un peu de Jamaïque pour la vivacité. Et donc un flagon de la marine britannique. Un nez de mélasse avec des fruits et des esters. De la douceur en contraste avec un côté vif, pas mal d’alcool aussi. De la vieille corde, du pruneau, du vieux bois et des fruits jaunes. La bouche attaque tout en douceur, en contraste avec un nez vif. Puis les arômes sombres envahissent la bouche et seulement alors le côté vif réapparaît. Tout s’accorde en finale, comme si ce rhum avait été blendé à la perfection. Une finale extrêmement longue et entêtante, mais aussi élégante et complexe. Ce rhum raconte une histoire d’héritier, noceur et dépravé. Aujourd’hui seul dans son château délabré avec de beaux restes."

"I had the chance to taste it blind, and my money was on an old Demerara. A nose of very, very old tropical Demerara, with lots of wood, but balanced by a fresh, almost minty character. Old tar, used to dampen the boards of sailing boats, and spruce too. The palate follows the nose quite closely, with a slight tartness: old tar and varnished wood. The finish is very long, both powerful and elegant, woody to the point of madness, but balanced thanks to the menthol. There's even a hint of salinity on the finish. A rum that tells a story of sailing ships, fragrant warehouses, old ropes and the sea. Splendid!"

"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: he 94 vintage is in top form here, the typical dirty Caroni aromas full of rubber and tar meet bone dry wood, smokiness, dark spices and a touch of sweetness and fruitiness. At home on the extremely dry side and therefore what for HTR purists. Great cinema."

"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Formidabler 96er Caroni mit der typischen schweren Süsse, satten dreckigen Teernoten, Holz, Menthol und einer guten Spur Schokolade. Was mich am meisten fasziniert ist, wie klar hier bei aller Vergleichbarkeit die Unterschiede zwischen Trinidad und Guyana Stock zum Tragen kommen - die Trinidad-Fässer bringen einen pointierten adstringierenden Charakter ein, der im ersten Moment schnell überfordernd wirken kann, de facto aber eine gänzlich andere Facette der 96er Caronis aufscheinen lässt und ein Feuerwerk an Aromatik eröffnet. Beeindruckend - die Employees-Serie lässt hier die erste Geige aufspielen. Ein Hochgenuss, jedes Mal aufs Neue."

"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Very round Caroni, which has not been harmed by the slight reduction to Navy Strength. The rum brings the 96 sweetness in perfection to the expression, in addition sounds rubber, fresh oak and vorallem a present spiciness from coffee, pepper and clove. Was for a long time a still well available Caroni representative from 1996, but has now "caught up" and is also increasing in price - but here it may at least be noted that the quality in the glass is absolutely convincing. An excellent representative of the m.E. anyway outstanding vintage 1996."

"05.01.2019 A very nice tasting event where I met new local rum nerds. Notes. Medium dark colour. Nose: wood, roasted, orange, earthy, light rubber and tar, caramel. Palate: oily, wood, roasted, cherry, tar, rubber, chocolate, light mint. Finish: very long, warm, wood, roasted, orange, light rubber and tar, citrus."
