"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Very aromatic and intense, the high alcohol adds punch but also expressiveness. Lots of vanilla melt on the palate and finish. Excellent 1996 Caroni, although not quite at the top of the vintage."

On the palate with a powerful taste, great residual sweetness, woodiness and a pointed presence of the individual aromas. Absolute top class."

"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Very round Caroni, which has not been harmed by the slight reduction to Navy Strength. The rum brings the 96 sweetness in perfection to the expression, in addition sounds rubber, fresh oak and vorallem a present spiciness from coffee, pepper and clove. Was for a long time a still well available Caroni representative from 1996, but has now "caught up" and is also increasing in price - but here it may at least be noted that the quality in the glass is absolutely convincing. An excellent representative of the m.E. anyway outstanding vintage 1996."

An ideal entry-level rum into the high-quality world of tropically aged Caronis with a price-performance ratio that is no longer quite so easy to finance, but still relatively good for Caroni. Excellent."

Rather dry Caroni with only discreet, but very charming residual sweetness and a lot of barrel influence, which is undoubtedly intense, but does not tip into the too bitter. One of the bottlings where the long availability is qualitatively inexplicable. Exceptionally good."

"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Angenehm, dass auch hier die lange tropische Lagerung nicht in zu heftige Bitternoten umschlägt. Die herben Noten sind zwar vorhanden, aber in schÜner Balance mit den hier sehr ausgeprägt auftretenden tropischen Frßchten (Mango, Kiwi), Teer-, Metall-, Karamell-, Holz- und Wßrznoten. Nach wiederholtem Tasting liegt er im Direktvergleich fßr mich hinter dem Schwester-Release zu Ehren von Sonny Black, weil er m.E. bei der Ausgewogenheit klar ins Hintertreffen gerät. Trotzdem ein versteckter Liebling fßr mich, es gilt, nicht zu vergessen, dass wir hinsichtlich der aufgerufenen Messlatte von Velier und Caroni sprechen; wir bewegen uns also bereits auf hÜchstmÜglichem Niveau."

"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: A striking fruitiness awaits us on the nose, which increasingly combines with Caroni-typical notes of rubber, tar and some caramel. On the palate, the aforementioned aromas are paired with a rich menthol note, the high alcohol content also comes into play and a little oxidation is recommended. Overall at a very high Caroni level, which promises exquisite quality (the tropically aged bottlings are in a league of their own). From the 2000 vintage, which is also very convincing in terms of quality, this is one of the weaker bottlings in relative terms, which is due to the alcohol not being fully integrated. Nevertheless, anyone who finds their way to Caroni with such bottlings is on an enviably high-quality path."

"Magnificent!On the nose tar, barrel and lightly cherry and vanilla. In the mouth an explosion of perfectly balanced sensations. Still tar, barrel and followed by toastiness and chocolate with a mix of spices.Intense finish that lingers until the next day.In my small way, one of the best rums I have tasted. I assigned 94 because there are too many great rums that I have never tasted and may never taste."

"Nose is very nice with just the right amount of dirt, smokeyness and some fruits and sweetness - well balanced. Same sensation on the palate. Very good cask out of the 98 vintage - intense yet well balanced. The influence of the bourbon cask is quite pronounced."

"La fameuse dÊgustation du coffret des single cask S.B.S. Le fÝt # 190. Le nez le plus fruitÊ des quatre mais quand même avec des notes typiques de Caroni. La bouche elle aussi est très fruitÊe, les arômes Caroni viennent ensuite. Je sens comme une faiblesse en milieu de bouche. La seule finale fruitÊe de la sÊrie. Verre vide : les arômes sont un peu trop discrets. Quelques points au-dessous des fÝts #53, #216 car moins ÊquilibrÊ."

"The famous S.B.S. single cask tasting. Cask # 193. The best nose of the four, deep and balanced between fruity aromas and machine shop notes. The palate is disappointing, with clashed aromas and not-so-well-integrated alcohol. The finish is long but a little weak compared with the other 3. Best of the 4 on an empty glass."

"RumX Advent Calendar, 18.12., blind.First impression: clearly Caroni! Dirty fruity, not too complicated, >60%. Good.Nose: as said, pleasantly dirty fruity, strong and complex. Sweet tar and burnt rubber. Red currant and a very slight hint of mint. Back polish and cold smoke.Palate: powerful and complex on the palate as well. Dry and woody and salty-bitter at the start. Then gum rub and polish, maybe some dried cherry and grapefruit. Very drinkable and beautiful Caroni representative."
