Top review from Jakob:
"Excellent, classic old Demerara profile with excellent integrated alcohol - the 70% brings complexity but is nowhere near this level perceptible and consequently does not overpower. Lots of heavy sweetness and spice, age is apparent and bitterness is present without being too dominant. It is bottlings like this that are simply lacking today, despite or possibly because of the much higher release frequency. Outstanding!"

"Stands out in the blind tasting of all Velier Diamonds with its comparatively very fruity-sweet nose. On the palate, bitter notes are added and the typical profile of Velier Diamonds becomes recognizable, however, the fruit notes remain very present, reminding me of overripe red berries (strawberries). Excellent drop and meanwhile a privilege to be able to taste it - great cinema."

"This is one of the best demerara rums I have had. Heavy, intense and balanced at the same time. Fruits and spices in a perfect dnace with some chocolate and a hint of rubber. The finish is medium to long with wonderful wood spices and dried fruit. I still remember that the day after the empty glass had the most wonderful aromas."

"Nose If Diamond 1988 was Mozarts Requiem, this fellow is Bachs Mass in B-Minor! Hence deeper, more transcendental and complex. The driest plums from Bavaria. Raisins from Turkey. The finest tobacco from Vuelta Abajo. The sweetest Medjoul dates from Jordan. Burned insense straight from the Vatican. New Santoni leather boots. Damp earth in a jungle. Molasses and Art Deco furniture. But also mouthwatering scents of grilled lamb with mint in a morocan restaurant. Beneath all this wild stew, a subtle hint of lavender and Ylang-Ylang wafts through, lending elegance and finesse to the very oily and heavy notes. The Olympus of a bouquet. Palate Rome is burning ladies and gents! It's a juggernaut that crushes everything that came before it. By that we don't mean the incredibly well-integrated 72.1%, but the sheer force of flavours sizzling on the tongue. Big time molasses sweetness up front, carried by a fine cocoa bitterness of Bajan chocolate. Tonka beans creme, fleshy notes, morocan mint, cuban tobacco, intense Manuka Honey notes and Umami all over the place. The earthy, manioc root-y and leathery finish resembles the length of the Great Wall of China. Rating Can a rum get any better? The bouquet alone is so brillant and complex that you could easily sit down with a glass and a Charles Dickens book for days, just to smell and be satisfied. Palate-wise, it is comparable to the excellent 1975 Cadenhead's, only with slightly deeper and darker nuances. Anyone who wants a taste of spirits heaven should at least get a sample. La messa è finita. 96/100 Points"

Top review from Jakob:
"Very complex without becoming unbalanced at any point. The wood note is particularly impressive, giving the rum a noble depth that borders on the bitter without overpowering the other notes. Heavy, dense consistency. Very nicely integrated alcohol. The only "fly in the ointment": Tasted blind, it doesn't stand out enough in comparison with other Skeldons for me to agree with the perfect score. However, this does not detract from its outstanding quality."

"Having this one on my upper shelf, where all the yummy stuff is always makes me happy. I have retasted it and compared to my old notes. This time it got a few more points. This is a very heavy rum that needs a frop of water and a rest before you give it a go. The nose is wonderful yet kind of light, setting off with fruits and some varnish before serving nuts, chocolate and spices before ending it with oak. The palate is, now hold on, a well balanced and complex experience. Bitter and dry at the same time and it draws nice oily curtains. Lots of fruit topped with caramel, spices and smoky oak."

Top review from Christoph H.:
"A very fruity and round PM on the nose, with plenty of raspberries, wild berries and dried apricots alongside prunes. The sweet and spicy component is reminiscent of treacle mixed with candied fruit; I can't find any caramel or toffee here. It is also very floral and flowery. A very round and harmonious nose, which moves away a little more from the dried fruit, as usual In the mouth, it seems a little thin even for just under 56% and has a very soapy/perfumed note, which I don't find quite so pleasant. There are also clearly noticeable roasted aromas, which have a slightly charred quality. Overall, not the best taste and mouthfeel, I have to say. Compared to the Full Proof High Spirits from 1974, this one really doesn't perform at all in the mouth! There are better things for me! I find the diluted version with 52%, for example, much better"

Top review from Jakob:
"Intense spectrum of predominantly cocoa, oak, caramel, tobacco and spices. This is accompanied by subtle mineral notes, hints of dried and yellow fruit and roasted nuts. The aroma spectrum of the heavy sweetness is almost perfectly pronounced, especially on the nose, from caramel to vanilla and fully ripe mango. In the mouth, the high alcohol content is unfortunately a little too noticeable and somewhat overshadows the overall profile. In the end, I feel there is a slight lack of contrast to this heavy sweetness, such as dark fruits or more nuanced spices. Nevertheless, this is still a great distillate."

"An intoxicating nose full of vanilla from the oak, caramel, interwoven spices - the depth of the individual aromas is breathtaking. The palate also offers a fascinating profile - again heavy sweetness full of expression away from any stickiness, dark spices, hints of tobacco and herbs, coffee, pleasant grip of the alcohol...deep, heavy, crisp, herbal, woody with a tart sweetness. Great."

Top review from Jakob:
"A rum you can't really dislike. Super pleasing, sweet profile, without ever seeming clumsy, sticky or uninteresting. The other flavors around smoke, spice and nuts are also so harmoniously embedded that there is neither too much bitterness, spicy sharpness nor too hackneyed sweetness. This balance is unfortunately somewhat at the expense of complexity, which is why it is not enough for me to the very highest consecration. Nevertheless, impressive quality and an excellent rum that shows its existing flavor profile in perfection."

"According to the current state of my personal REV king. Pronounced plum notes and subtle tobacco accompanied by noble dark notes of leather, licorice and wood. The comparison of the 1994 REVs is the rum version of the clash of the titans - who has something for the heavy sweetness, the trenchant plum notes and the tart barrel influences that make up this Marque, has certainly great joy in the cross-comparison as I do. And depending on individual taste, other frontrunners are definitely possible here - in the overall package, I see the V"

"Inspiring rum. Bottled at just the right time before it turns bitter. Tastes like a 94 REV only better. Great woody notes, eternal finish. Comprehensive creaminess and even a slight sweetness despite its great age. Wow!"

Top review from Jakob:
"Very noble profile, even if extremely bitter. Cocoa, coffee, leather, barrel - multi-layered dark notes paired with some dried fruit and subtle sweetness. For me, the nose is one of the best I've ever tasted - however, the rum's age has caused it to lose some of its edge on the palate. A rum for which you have to take your time, but which is well worth it."

Top review from Jakob:
"The flavorful outlier among the Velier diamonds - but by no means in a negative sense. Those who like licorice and leather notes in Demerara will find what they are looking for here. I personally like the profile very much and catapults the bottling consequently also in the top range. No classic Diamond essence, rather 70s Demerara notes with tart, heavy sweetness. An absolutely outstanding release."

"A rum that was somewhat under my radar for a long time - but that doesn't do the bottling justice. The Marque by Diamond is quite recognizable thanks to the dominant liquorice notes. The Versailles component comes forward with minerality, plus the oak barrel with its sweet vanilla note. Clearly the best Demerara blend from Velier in my eyes."
