"Very intense, especially the spice breaks its way here and provides a powerful counterpoint to the fruit esters. Complex and quite demanding, thus very exciting. Fits seamlessly into the group of high-quality 1995 Clarendons/Monymusks."

"Excellent Demerara rum! The nose is complex and concentrated, and really makes you want more. On the palate you will then find the perfect blend of delicate bitter notes, spice and dark chocolate. Absolute recommendation!"

"Great Hampden, a bit "softer" than the sister barrel, with both playing at an impressive level."

"Very good Rum from Foursquare (the best of the three samples i got). Price per value is satisfying. You will notice the 60% for sure! Alcohol is integrated well. Nose: Classic Barbardos. Cashew nuts, Tropical fruits, vanilla, oak, marzipan, coco, banana, Honey. On the palate: Roasted, Vanilla, Marzipan, with a note of nuts, mocha and orange peal. The finish is medium long with an astringend feeling with notes of oak, vanilla, mocha and leather."

"A pleasant, rather restrained nose. But on the palate comes a wonderful roastiness, chocolate and umami. Very horny 1998 Caroni!"

"Very interesting nose, similar to cherry liqueur and quite closed. The palate is very intense with a nice marzipan note, cocoa and barrel notes. The finish harmonizes with the impression on the palate and is not too bitter.Good intensity without being too bitter or woody. I like very much."

"Quite different color than the 2 years younger Jamaica Edition No. 13 from 1997.Nose: fleshy, fruity, a little reminiscent of a heavy Long Pond, no alcoholic sharpness and tropical fruits (banana)Palate: oily and heavy, now the alcohol is very noticeable along with a lot of spice and even more wood.Finish: long, dry and spicy, slightly salty with licorice and also mint!Great, heavy rum with very interesting nose, the rest is very dominated by the wood, but I do not find it unpleasant."

"Compared to the other 1998 in the CoR series, the complexity is lacking here - the herbal notes are just as weakly represented as are the heavy vanilla and toffee sweetness. Solid in the best sense, slight plus points for the recognizable barrel influence."

"On the one hand, many typical Caroni notes, but the dirty character remains tightly held in check. Unusual are the distinct green notes of tea and tobacco. Overall, quite a change from other 1998 continental-aged Caronis, but not enough for the top group in my book."

"Got a sample of this rum for free from RumX. It’s a pot still distilled Hampden distilled in 1998 whereafter it’s continental aged for 23 years in an ex-Rum barrel before bottled in 255 bottles at 61,9%. Overall a great Hampden HLCF that’s complex, funky and esters rich."
