Jack Tar • Caroni
1998   20yr   69,3%   €€€€

Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:

"This is a another rare bottle and I was really happy that my friend got a full set and I could buy some samples. This is a great Caroni and if you get the chance you should give it a go. Make sure you rest it for a good while so that you get the full experience. The nose is a clear Caroni with tar, varnish and smoky wood trailed by cherries and vanilla. The palate is fruity with tar, wood, tobacco, leather and wonderful vanilla. The finish is long with fruits, tar, wood and light vanilla. What I like is that the flavours stick to your palate for a very long time. Price to quality can be argued but it is a great release."

1997   23yr   61,3%   €€€€

Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:

"#4090 This is a very nice Caroni and a smoky one indeed. In the glas it's a bit cloudy but nothing that matters. All the expected Caroni notes are there once rested, rubber, tar and smoky wood. There is a light orange note in the profile and I like that. Well balanced and good ABV integration. Draws really nice and slow curtains and the empty glass has even more smoke and fruit flavours."

"#4087 This is a very elegant rum with very good ABV integration. After resting the rum is well rounded an has great balance in the flavours. Very light fruit and nice wood. Draws beautiful curtains and the empty glass has very light licorice notes."

Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:

"#4089 In my mind this one is better and has a bit more punch than the Alpha. Maybe it's just because I just had the Alpha, but I tried nosing and sipping the side to side and there are small differences. This one also deserves a place on my shelves and the profile is very similar to the Alpha. This one also draws really nice curtains in and I can pick up caramel in the empty glass."

"#4088 This is a nicely balanced rum with a warm palate and comparing it to the Omega a bit lighter though they should be almost the same. I love the wood and smoke that is there but not dominant which usually happens in rums this age. Good ABV integration and my shelves are well worth a bottle. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass has more smoke and caramel."

LIMBO HTR

Jack Tar • Caroni
1999   22yr   63,7%   €€€€

Top review from Jakob:

"Good Caroni, classic profile. Dirty notes with wood, spice and heavy sweetness. Far from the Velier Olympus, but still compelling and further evidence that the 1999 vintage deserves attention."

Top review from Jakob:

"I like it a bit better than the second 1997 bottling from the Caroni Old Music series. A bit rounder in direct comparison, the Caroni-typical dirty notes are a bit less accentuated, although still clearly recognizable. Somewhat sweeter, more balanced, more drinkable."

Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:

"Wow, this Caroni hits you smack in the face. When you open and pour there's no doubt this is a Caroni. The nose is intense with Caroni flavours, rubber, tar and petrol, wow. Wood, fruit and chocolate then pops out and a light hint of leather to finish off. The palate is picking up where the nose left off. Toasted oak, tar and rubber is there right off the bat followed by fruit and licorice a d i sence a minty/menthol note in there as well. The finish is very long, as in very long, dry and spicy with some tobacco and light fruits. A very good Caroni."

Jack Tar • Caroni
1996   22yr   64,3%   €€€€

Top review from Jakob:

"In itself quite an interesting distillate, but the whole has almost nothing at all to do with Caroni. Opulent sweetness, vanilla, caramel, milky notes, some coffee, yellow fruits. On the palate, a gum note flits through the flavor profile, but that was it with the reminiscences of the typical Caroni notes. A rum that should work much better blind than with the Caroni expectation as a guideline."
