Top review from Jakob:
"Very complex without becoming unbalanced at any point. The wood note is particularly impressive, giving the rum a noble depth that borders on the bitter without overpowering the other notes. Heavy, dense consistency. Very nicely integrated alcohol. The only "fly in the ointment": Tasted blind, it doesn't stand out enough in comparison with other Skeldons for me to agree with the perfect score. However, this does not detract from its outstanding quality."

"Nose If Diamond 1988 was Mozarts Requiem, this fellow is Bachs Mass in B-Minor! Hence deeper, more transcendental and complex. The driest plums from Bavaria. Raisins from Turkey. The finest tobacco from Vuelta Abajo. The sweetest Medjoul dates from Jordan. Burned insense straight from the Vatican. New Santoni leather boots. Damp earth in a jungle. Molasses and Art Deco furniture. But also mouthwatering scents of grilled lamb with mint in a morocan restaurant. Beneath all this wild stew, a subtle hint of lavender and Ylang-Ylang wafts through, lending elegance and finesse to the very oily and heavy notes. The Olympus of a bouquet. Palate Rome is burning ladies and gents! It's a juggernaut that crushes everything that came before it. By that we don't mean the incredibly well-integrated 72.1%, but the sheer force of flavours sizzling on the tongue. Big time molasses sweetness up front, carried by a fine cocoa bitterness of Bajan chocolate. Tonka beans creme, fleshy notes, morocan mint, cuban tobacco, intense Manuka Honey notes and Umami all over the place. The earthy, manioc root-y and leathery finish resembles the length of the Great Wall of China. Rating Can a rum get any better? The bouquet alone is so brillant and complex that you could easily sit down with a glass and a Charles Dickens book for days, just to smell and be satisfied. Palate-wise, it is comparable to the excellent 1975 Cadenhead's, only with slightly deeper and darker nuances. Anyone who wants a taste of spirits heaven should at least get a sample. La messa è finita. 96/100 Points"

"Great theater - old Demerara in grandiose opulence. On the nose and palate with an oily texture, heavy molasses sweetness, smokiness and dry fruits, which are more restrained in the other well-known vintages of the 70s Demeraras. Either way, it remains a great pleasure."

"Tasted together with Chris2302 some time ago. Many thanks to the donor at the time who made this possible for both of us 😀 (a little tip: it was on the 2nd GAF, so it's not difficult to find the donor 😉 ) I thought the smell was bomb. After the first sip, we agreed that this is a drop that will easily break the 9! Anyone who has the opportunity to try it. Do not hesitate! Insane part!!! Drink of the gods!"

"Incredibly intense and complex. In the nade a great, extremely harmonious composition of prune, leather, coffee notes and glue. On the palate incredibly intense, oily and toasty. Great sweetness. A pleasant bitterness is added on the finish. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. An outstanding Demerara from the 1970s!"

"This is also an older tasting and at the release the price was very good compared to what you got. This rum is heavy, really heavy and it hits you as soon as you open the bottle. I'm not a certain but I made a note that I thought there was a hint of raisin in there. The nose is heavy on roasted wood with tar, molasses and some nuts. The palate is heavy, very complex and extremely well balanced with lots of roasted, even burnt wood actually, tar, molasses and a hint of mint. The finish goes on forever and has lots of roasted/burnt wood and tar. The note I have is that the colour was beautifully dark, bomb of a nose and heavy curtains in the glass."

"10.07.2020 A nice tasting meeting new and old friends. This was the final rum and it's a very expensive of its kind. These bottles are not only expensive but extremely rare. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Complex, fresh, light wood, light citrus, faint chocolate, light floral, faint herbs. Palate Velvety, light wood, light roasted, faint nutts, citrus, dried fruit, naturally sweet, faint salt, light herbs. Finish Medium to long, light roasted wood, naturally sweet, light nutts, dried fruit, light chocolate."

"Nose The Bouquet is a Versace dress in liquid aggregate. Incredibly oplulent, vibrant and yet of undeniable elegance. Feels almost like a perfume called Eau de Demerara, coming straight from the jungle. The scent of the finest, freshly cut woods such as sandalwood and cedar alternates in continuous play with lovely blossoms of ylang-ylang, poppy blossom, lilac and myrrh. The whole weave is carried by sweet mangoes, sticky glue and a light coconut blossom note, which absolutely corresponds to the Diamond profile. Palate La grande bellezza! Sweet, super concentrated and oily, the first sip fills the palate with dried mangos, fried cassava slices, tamarind paste and milk chocolate with coconut filling. But there is also a note of Masala Chai in there, giving it an oriental twist. The sweetness is striking! At no point does the 61.4% abv seem dominant or sharp. The tropical maturation has done a perfect job here! It's clearly a Diamond Coffey Still Rum, yet it somehow tastes more refined and sophisticated than the other Velier Diamonds. ғɪɴɪsʜ Long like the red carpet of Cannes, flanked by the abovementioned fine woods and a whole bunch of citrus peels."

"Completely different league than all other Montebellos known to me - it should of course also be noted that it is in the comparison field in terms of distillation vintages a difference of more than three decades. What is offered here, however, is simply sensational: In the nose already of breathtaking depth with heavy fruits, fresh cola aroma and floral notes, the bouquet thickens on the palate to an oily texture with chocolaty sweetness, heavy fruitiness, excellent spice and perfectly balanced wood influence. Whatever Carrere (or whoever - the exact origin is still rumored) did differently than today: Play it again, Sam!"

"Price to quality can be argued but the quality can't. A very fruity, intense and well balanced rum. I like the roasted wood on the profile, nicely balanced without being dominant. ABV is very well integrated."

"Dark dried fruit meets wet leather, tobacco and smoke - very impressive melange with various reminiscences of other Demerara styles, but here blended in almost perfect harmony. Hard to believe that such a balanced and versatile profile can emerge after a comparatively short aging period."

"The nose is still relatively unspectacular, as far as one can speak of a tropically aged Caroni from the over vintage 1996 - but on the palate then rises a real fireworks. Sweetness, spice, borderline smokiness, wood, rubber and tar...I feel well taken care of all around, precisely because this rum definitely has rough edges and also the high alcohol content does not hide and brings out the Caroni-typical notes almost perfectly. Impressive level."

"Super nice bottling. Mega dark tones with extremely heavy sweetness and an almost endless bouquet! Lots of wood, spices, yet fruit and caramel... It was endless fun! Thanks to the noble donor!"

"This is a tasting from 10.05.2019 where I went out with a few colleagues for a nice tasting. I have the following notes. Very nice colour with a fresh balanced nose once rested. With a bit of water it opens up a bit more without changing the overall profile."

"14.03.2020 Had a nice afternoon and evening with friends. Notes. Medium dark colour. Nose: wood, roasted, rubber, tar, cherry, earthy, mint. Palate: wood, light smoke, tar, rubber, citrus, oily, leather. Finish: very long and warm, wood, coffee, citrus, chocolate."

Top review from Jakob:
"In the nose wonderful wood aromas paired with filigree spiciness and subtle fruit notes. Unfortunately, on the palate, the wood influence takes control, the barrel is very present, behind which fine fruitiness of the nose almost disappears and concise spicy notes and barrel tones take the reins. This definitely still has charm, but still seems to me already somewhat overlaid. For lovers of rather dry, bulky rums a good place to go, me on balance, unfortunately, on the palate aromatically a bit too narrow."

"If you like Bellevue then this is one of the really good ones. Price to quality was great at release. The nose is intense and fruity with wood, cinnamon, honey and herbal notes after resting for more than 15 minutes. The palate is both intense, complex and well balanced with fruit, honey and leather with light candied, chocolate and herbal notes. The finish is extremely long with dried fruit, wood, leather, honey and herbal notes. Leave the empty glass for a few hours and whiff it again to get the full experience."

Top review from cigares :

"Excellent REV with a somewhat broader fruit spectrum - plum is joined by fresh notes of currant and other red fruits. In addition, with crisp spice, which comes along but rather tart than fresh-herbal. Pleasant sweetness. Overall, very balanced, without ever running the risk of becoming too predictable."
